Last week on the 4th of July, I found myself leaning against a wall, sipping a beer, and listening to a drag queen yammer on about politics.
Everyone in the big gay bar cheered when their big bubbly feathered hostess asked the crowd who would be voting for Hillary in 2008.
Since then, I read through her political positions albeit on Wikipedia, but nevertheless I took the time to sit, read, and consider. I think that the all too eager LBGT crowd should do the same.
True: she is not opposed to civil unions between gay or lesbian couples.
True: she voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment.
But, she is far from being the singing, glittering, sequined Wonder Woman to the gay and lesbian universe. Did I mention the drag queen in question performed in a Wonder Woman costume complete with flashy thigh-high red boots?
Just cuz she is a chick doesn't mean that people should give her support without reading up on her policies; at least I don't buy into that.
AFter I did do my homework, I found that yes there are some areas that I agree with her, but there are other areas that I find myself wondering why people--such as the LGBT community--would so adamantly support her.
I'm not Hillary bashing by any means; my complaint is that I think alot of people slap "Hillary's Great in '08" bumperstickers on the backs of their hybrid cars because she is well, a she.
Might as well have the drag queen get up there and lip-sync Whitney Houston belting out "God Bless America" in her all her hair and glamor if people are really concerned with appearance rather than the actual meaty issues at hand.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised though, I mean look at the last 8 years. WTF was that?

When I am reading papers, I often happen across a certain phrase that makes me want to kill myself right there on the spot.
That phrase is "in today's society." Please people, try and think of a better way to discuss a contemporary idea or event other than repeating that awful phrase ad nauseam.
Thanks. I appreciate it and I'm sure everyone else in today's society will too.

Things that have happened that are pretty fuckin rad:
1) School is over. End.
2) For the second semester running, I've gotten straight A's. I'm finally not a slacker.
3) This weekend is my long awaited 21st B-day extravaganza.
4) I just got my sweet new horizontal license.
5) I am a real live adult person, for the most part.
Ahhhh. Summer is here PTL. The next thing that needs to happen is Memorial Day so I can go fucking row-boating.

I just finished reading through some of my old poems. Christ, I guess everyone goes through an amateur poet phase at some point in his or her young adult life. Amateur here = bad.
So, I am curious to try my hand at poetry again, especially because I'll be taking a Poetry Writing Workshop in the fall. I would do it now, but I realized that I am only comfortable writing poetry if I do it ye olde fashioned way with pen and paper.
I have a feeling that the margins of my notebook will be taken advantage of in the near future.

I wasn't sure if this was a joke at first, that's how ridiculous it is. Sadly, it's serious, which is even more hilarious.
It makes me proud to be a coffee drinker :) I knew it all along; Coffee is the true path to enlightenment.

So February was a real crap month filled with people doing crap things. Real Total Crap. Praise Jesus it's a midgit month.
People dying, crying, lying, and spying.
On top of all that crap, my life was ruined by YouTube.
I feel like a giggly highschool girl; I should be above this empty humor.
I think I'm getting dumber this semester. I'm not challenged at all, just frustrated.
Maybe it's the weather.
This weekend should be fun though. Hamlet on Friday (huzzah) and Sklenna's party is Saturday. I'm very excited to get out of Y-town for a night, even if it is only for a night.
Spring break is soon too. I hope to make a great escape during that week.

I very much enjoy when people comment "anonymously" but it's still painfully obvious who it is.

So, 2007. I will turn 21 in 5 months and 17 days. Yes, I am counting.
I didn't really bother making any resolutions because I didn't feel as though I had much to resolve except bettering my financial situation, but that's more of an ongoing affair not limited to the past year.
I am glad to see that two of my LJ buddies came out of LJ hiatus. Since I still stand tall on the side of the world outside of MySpace (many have fallen but, I stand resilient to its charms; actually at this point its a time issue or lack thereof that keeps me from crossing over ) its nice to have a few LJers left who post, thus keeping my waning LJ addicition satiated.
Over this winter break, I have developed a horrible habit of staying up until the break of dawn and getting up only an hour or two before the sun sets. That's-a-no-good. Night time is so peaceful though, no unwanted distractions, just peace and quiet. Everything slows down too, which is a nice well deserved reprieve from the fast pace world of the day time.
Well before the world wakes up, I'm going to dive under the covers.
Make the most out of breakfast, Don't forget the toast!

I got the best Christmas Present ever yesterday.
For the first time in my college career, I pulled off a straight A semester dispite the fact that this was the hardest semester for me thus far. Weird how that shit works.
Perhaps, I do care about school after all. The magic of Christmas has made me a believer!!!

First, I love buying X-mas gifts.
Its like a game; let's see how well I know my friends and family by buying them stuff. Usually I win the game.
This year however...there are a few people that I'm totally stuck on what to get them. How do you spend so much time with some people and have NO clue what they like?!
I think I might take a thoughtful way out and actually make something for them. Yes, I think that will work considering I've already spent too much.
Non Christmas Related News:
3 more days and this nightmareish semester is finally over. I should have read over my star-chart more carefully before I scheduled for this past semester then maybe I would have known how totally treacherous it would have been. Next time for sure.

Sometimes I wonder whether or not some people's mere existance can be classified as a sin against the rest of humanity.
I'm fairly certain that in some cases it is.
Jesus Christ...what were you thinking.

So, lately I have become hyper-sensitive to lies and lying because lies and lying are the subjects for a research paper for my Advanced Linguistics class.
And by hyper-sensitive, I mean paranoid.
Everyone is such a liar, myself included. Not necessairily about BIG deal things like I'm not secretly a super secret agent who has to be a super secret spy by night, and a common college student/ writing tutor by day. More or less I've noticed people lying about little things under the guise that they are "protecting" either themselves or someone close to them. Which is interesting if you stop and think about it. Why do we think that concealing the truth is a better, sunnier, alternative to the actual truth itself? What do we REALLY have to hide?
Example: I was on the phone today with a close friend and I noticed, and was consciously aware that I was witholding the truth and spitting out lie after lie after lie...but they were "harmless" lies. Better to tell the lie then tell the truth, but why? Because the truth would cause more trouble, but how can that be? Aren't lies the ugly evil twin that we want to keep locked up in the attic? Not the truth, the truth shall set you free afterall. Right?
Here's a quote to consider: "someone who can lie has a sophistication beyond that of a mere truth-teller."

Why,O God, do you plague your children with such treacherous things?

I wonder if that has any deep, interesting psychological meaning.
